The Retail Shopfitting Process

July 30, 2010

Shopfitters would all say yes that regardless of the common jobs they perform, they really don’t have a standard process of doing things. It is because shopfitters simply start their processes on the concrete conditions of the product essential of them. Owners of retail stores, for example, may not want to have the flooring and the ceiling retouched. Rather, they would immediately go to the issue of the shelves, counters, and also display stalls. A conventional restoration would have prompted them to do something with the floors, walls and ceilings first.

However, even when retail shopfitters would say that there is no fixed technical rule, each would begin with planning. Planning though is not merely something which they do alone. This part’s most crucial requirements are concepts reflective of the shop manager’s or owner’s approach. The reason behind this is that the design should proficiently reflect the nature and goal of the business. Even the smartest shopfitter can’t be as good as the shop manager himself when it comes to that.

It is clear that the planning stage must be cooperatively implemented by the shop associates and also the retail shopfitters. The latter is supposed to be the ones more expressive about their plans. They must be able to describe in detail their wanted designs. The shopfitters may even have to learn about the background of ideas provided to them. As a result of these often long meetings, a blueprint made by the shopfitters would be shown to the shop manager. Obviously, the blueprint is the graphic expression of the concepts presented.

The structure of the retail shop’s interior may differ a lot but what is typical is the capability to display the goods effectively. Of course, shopfitting isn’t just like the typical interior beautification job. It is performed mainly for the purpose of setting up a showroom out of any shop interior. Because of this, motivation is given to the manufacture of fixtures for product display. It even sets the lighting and the shelf design if there are particular brands or products that should be highlighted.

As soon as the shop manager gives his approval of the work plan and blueprint, the construction can start right away. Retail shopfitters would have to renovate the floors, ceilings, and walls before anything if an over-all retouch is needed. Electrical installation and plumbing could be done together with these jobs. These would be followed by counters and shelves construction. Shopfitters must see to it that time isn’t wasted because any delay won’t be appreciated by their clients.

Establishing the signage is usually one of the finishing touches done by retail shopfitters. Although it is one of the last task to be done, it is quite significant. The purpose of the signage is not only to inform people of the store’s existence. It should be able to attract people like a magnet and encourage them to go inside. If no signage is put up, the store will only have its share of random buyers out of most people passing by.
