Whether you have been experiencing dry skin, inflammation or rashes, you may have some form of eczema. This is a term that has been designated to many different types of skin inflammation known as dermatitis. While there are several different kinds to become familiar with, atopic dermatitis is by far the most common form.

People need to know that they are not the only one that is suffering with whatever form of eczema that they might be suffering from. This skin condition can effect people of all ages although you will find the most cases of eczema tend to occur in infants. The wonderful news is that if you have an infant that is affected by eczema there is a very good chance that they will be completely cured by the time that they are three years old. Unfortunately for many they will be dealing with eczema for the rest of their lives.

It is common for people who are affected by this skin condition to have some form of family history. Whether it is this in particular or some kind of allergic conditions like asthma or hay fever, many times it points back to your family. This is why it is imperative you know and understand your family history.

As mentioned, you are not alone if you have symptoms of this skin condition. Around 20% of children and 1% to 2% of adults supposedly have eczema. It is certainly not uncommon to find someone you know that may have it or have suffered from it at some point in time.

Now where does this irritating skin condition begin? The unfortunate thing is that most all doctors are unsure as to what the origin of eczema happens to be. The one thing that they are sure of is that an abnormal immune system is very likely to play a part.

Since there are so many different types of eczema, breakouts can often occur when different substances come in contact with the skin. These substances could include things like soaps and different types of clothing. Any substance that could potentially cause an allergic reaction could trigger breakouts as well. Quick changes in the temperature as well as humidity can also play a factor in the occurrence of eczema.

It cannot be stressed enough that you need to be able to understand all of the symptoms of an occurrence of eczema. This way you will be able to more effectively be able to treat the condition. While the appearance of this skin condition will differ from person to person if you are experiencing a breakout that really looks quite odd then by all means get it checked out. The faster you are able to correctly identify a breakout the faster you are going to be able to start treating your eczema.
