In light of growing concerns over pet food recalls, questions about whether or not to vaccinate, or how many immunizations may be “too much,” or if we’re overmedicating our pets as well as ourselves as a society, dog owners continue to search for effective ways for keeping their beloved best friends as healthy and happy for as long as possible.

It is important to keep in contact with your vet on a regular basis, and the annual checkup is a great idea, whether or not you opt for annual vaccinations for your dog. There actually is no evidence that annual vaccinations for dogs are necessary, and there is in fact evidence that they are not required, and can even cause harm. But having your dog checked out by your vet once a year is always a good idea. Tell your vet, though, that you’re interested in a holistic approach to dog health care.
