Be green at home to help the environment

November 4, 2009

No matter what the weather, it’s always good to plan ahead for your home improvement projects. The sooner you can do it, the better. Especially if you think the projects will cost a little money, you’ll want to start planning and saving now. Consider these projects for the upcoming spring and summer “honey do lists.”

Gutter Guards

If you live in an area that has a lot of trees or debris coming down, you’ll want to keep your gutters clean so they don’t overflow and direct too much water next to your foundation. Leaf gutter guards can help keep the leaves out of the gutters and let water go through. If the guard gets a big pile of leaves on it you can easily brush it off instead of having to dig out big chunks of debris from those small gutter nooks and crannies. Some people say they aren’t much of a benefit, but there are actually several types to look at and as long you get something that is easy to insert and easy to wipe off should something get stuck instead of sliding off the edge, then you should be fine.

Residential Solar Panels

Whether you’ve given it serious thought or not, I’d guess the idea of wanting to save energy at home has crossed your mind. For the more ambitious there is the project of putting up residential solar panels to heat your home. My parents did this back in the 80s, even back then it went a long way toward reducing energy costs for home heating. The technology has only improved since then so it’s something to consider. Weigh the upfront costs against the long term savings and see if it’s something worth investing in. Helping to save the planet has become the new rage. You could be one of the many homeowners who are also evaluating this option.

Who Makes The Best Juicer ?

November 4, 2009

In today’s ‘chaotic world’ we seem to be spending less and less time at home and more time rushing around meeting ‘dead lines’ at work. Stress and pressure has become part of America’s staple diet, convenience food the ‘norm’. The result: a nation over fatigued but under nourished…..a nation lacking in the essential fuel that would ‘see’ us through our daily grind. But fortunately there is a quick and easy solution that more and more Americans are turning to…..natural juice.

Juicing is quick, it’s easy and it’s packed with the essential ‘fuels’ necessary to survive, and then thrive, in today’s fast paced world. But who makes the best juicer and what should you be looking for when buying a juicer for the first time?

This is a difficult question to answer. We all have different needs. Do you want an ‘all round’ appliance that the whole family can use or are you looking for the best juicer that is able to tackle ‘exotic’ produce such as wheatgrass? So, with this ‘proviso’ allow me to review my 2 favourite juicers. The ‘all round’ Breville Fountain Juicer and the top of the line, Green Star, appliance that also specialises in juicing produce such as wheatgrass.

The Breville Fountain Juicer is certainly one of the better ‘all around’ family juicers on the market today. The reasons are many. It’s remarkably simple to put back together, it’s quality parts are built to last, it’s a breeze to clean and it’s remarkably quiet when ‘running’….a major consideration when preparing a juice while the rest of the family are sleeping.

In addition to this, the Breville Fountain Juicer also incorporates an extremely powerful filter and cutting system , so powerful in fact, that it is able to juice large chunks of pineapple with the rind still attached.

Also, if standing over a sink having to wash lots of parts sounds unappealing to you then you’ll be glad to know that the parts are dishwasher friendly. All I do is give them a quick rinse, then ‘shoot’ them through the dishwasher. Not only is ‘clean-up’ quick and easy but the parts are further sanitized for your family’s safety.

This bring us onto the Green Star, a terrific juicer with a ‘raft’ of awards to back up it’s ‘top billing’.

The Green Star GS-3000 is certainly one of the premier juicer on the market today. What makes the Green Star so desirable is that it comes with heavy duty two gear technology that allows it to operate at 110 RPM as well as at higher rotations. This feature will allow you to juice both softer fruit as well as harder varieties, that many other machines are unable to ‘tackle’.

To my mind, and one of the reasons I own two juicers, the Green Star is more of a processor than a juicer. It is able to cope with leafy greens and other more exotic produce, thereby allowing me to enjoy the full nutritional and health benefits of these ‘fruits’.

Finally, the Green Star has an extremely fine screen that renders an almost pulpless juice. If you want, however, you can attach a larger screen for a ‘pulpier’ concoction, which can also be used to homogenize food for babies, or for making breadsticks, pasta and delicious rice breads.

So, ‘breaking free’ of today’s chaotic lifestyle is easy….and on top of that…it’s delicious. The hard part is deciding who makes the best juicer. It’s a personal choice, based on your needs. Consider the two above

Thus once again, who makes the best juicer and why it is the best juicer is the one that does what you need it to do. It’s a personal selection that only you can answer. Consider the two mentioned above, ask around but ultimately ask yourself: ” who makes the best juicer … for YOU. “

Infertility Assistance Can Be Found If Couples Know Where To Search

November 4, 2009

Millions of couples throughout the world find themselves faced with infertility problems. The cause can be with either the man or with the woman, for a variety of reasons.

Depending on who you talk to, infertility is loosely defined as a situation where a couple has been trying regularly to get pregnant for at least a year. Sometimes the solution to infertility stress is simply to adjust lifestyle choices like diet, stress and exercise, and then to be patient. Acupuncture is an ancient art that can help to relieve stress and generally make the body more receptive to ovulation and conception.

Certain statistics are kept and in general a substantial percentage of infertility problems are curable. The likelihood of success does tend to decrease with age. The cost related to obtaining a cure for infertility depends on the actual source of the trouble; that is, the cost can be as low as maybe $200 or so up to $20,000.

It is worth giving some attention to a few of the causes of infertility such as PCOS, that are most frequently encountered. Polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, is one of the more common culprits and may be related to hormone imbalances. One of the most important female hormones is progesterone, and if it is lacking there may be a variety of issues. Another, somewhat unusual source of trouble, has the complicated name endometriosis.

Infertility can turn out to be a rather costly condition to cure. If your medical insurance company offers infertility insurance statistics suggest it might be worthwhile to pay the extra premium and receive the benefits if faced with this problem. Statistically there is a chance that you can obtain relief without having to spend many thousands. Good health, patience, controlling stress and proper timing can make the difference. Of course, a medical professional should be contacted right away if there is any hint of something troublesome medically.

Plastic fundraising cards are confirmed to be incredibly successful with a lot of different types of businesses and associations. Pledges are important, of course, but there are so many more opportunities for raising money at a walk. People have always liked unique fundraising idea to have a calendar in their lives, it helps most us stay focused on the day we are living. And just like any other business endeavor; this can end up costing you money rather than increasing it. It’s very simple to build a mini greenhouse in your backyard. In fact, it’s probably one of the easiest DIY projects you can attempt. The best species of wood are treated pine, and cedar, as both are water resistant and rot-proof. If you lack confidence as a do-it-yourself how to build a greenhouse, look online for helpful seminars at your local Lowe’s, Home Depots or other construction information sources. The price is also very reasonable for the use we are able to get out of it. Unlike other non-treated species, it is water resistant, and won’t rot. However, for a more upmarket look you could go for something like cedar.

Paranormal Agency Game Review

November 4, 2009

Paranormal Agency is a typical hidden object game. In Paranormal Agency, the hidden objects can come in the form of outlines to match, words, or a theme.  The themes can be anything from light sources to ghosts.

The game does not offer all the bells and whistles of the fancier games. It does offer a basic hidden object game without taking up a lot of memory.

The game begins by Heather Williams calling a paranormal specialist. Apparently, a child has been taken by a ghost. The investigator comes and after the first hidden object search, the investigator says the child is still there. A few searches later, and the child is found and Heather Williams is left with a piece of the ghost. She now has ESP and starts a career in paranormal science. Years pass and the investigator dies. The investigator left his business to Heather. Now she is searching on her own.

Paranormal Agency is supposed to take you on a spooky adventure. Unfortunately, it falls flat. While the graphics are good, they fall short of being scary or even creepy. The dialogue lacks appeal.  Luckily you can skip the dialogue. The game play isn’t bad though. If you are looking for a straight forward hidden object game, this will be right up your alley.

Each scene has you searching for a different amount of hidden objects. Like many hidden object games, the list contains about 5 items at a time. When you find one item, the item disappears from the list and new ones appear until you are down to the last few items. This game has one of my favorite features: the disappearing item. I like it when a game has the item disappear after you find it. I find it makes searching easier because it decreases the clutter.

Paranormal Agency does offer mini-games throughout the game. One mini-game has you detangle thread. Not quite sure of the point, but none-the-less it is an interesting puzzle. Another one of the mini-games is a spot the difference game.  Personally, I love spot the difference games and this one does not let you down. The screen is split in half has arrows on both sides for easy clicking on the differences.

You can find Paranormal Agency at Marco Polo Games. You can try the game for an hour for free. That gives you more than enough time to decide if you like the game or not. If you like it great! You can buy it from the site. If not then there are hundreds of other games to try for free. It won’t take you long to find a hidden object game that is perfect for you at Marco Polo Games.
