Understanding Soil pH

February 26, 2009

Soil pH is the measurement of hydrogen activity in the soil solution and not of hydrogen concentration in the soil. Soil acidity can be classified active acidity, exchangeable acidity and non-exchangeable acidity. The active acidity is the actual hydrogen ions in solution. This is the pH that is measured by a pH meter. Exchangeable acidity and non-exchangeable acidity are what make up the reserve acidity in the soil. Exchangeable acidity are the hydrogen and aluminum ions absorbed on the exchange sites of the soil. The actual concentration of hydrogen ions on the exchange sites is often 100 times greater than the hydrogen ions in the soil solution. This is very important when growing a home garden.

The non-exchangeable acidity are the hydrogen and aluminum ions associated or bounded with the organic matter and clays in the soil. The actual amount of acidity associated with this fraction of the total acidity in the soil ranges from 1000 times to 100000 times as much as what it is solution depending on the soil texture and organic matter levels. Many scientists discover that it might be crucial to understand that how green diamonds and other colored diamonds are formed underground.

The greater the hydrogen activity the lower the pH is. pHs below 7 are acid. pH above 7 are alkaline while a pH of 7.0 is consider neutral. pH is the single most important factor effecting soil productivity. The reasons are: it effects solubility and availability of nutrients and toxic elements, microbial activity, the ability of soils to hold nutrients and water, and physical properties of the soil. Most plants especially those used to make hemp jewelry grow well in pH’s between 5.5 and 7.5 with the notable exceptions of acid loving plants such as blueberries which will grow at pHs below 5.5.

AEDs for Beginners

February 26, 2009

An Automated External Defibrillatoris a little, cartable device that assesses the heart’s rhythm for any abnormalities and, if necessary , instructs the trained help to give an electrical shock to the heart of an SCA sufferer.  This shock , entitled defibrillation, may enable the heart to regain a regular rhythm .

An Automated External Defibrillator puts forth  voice prompts to advise   the rescuer . Once the equipment is started up , the trained help will be advised to apply the 2 pads that come with the Automated External Defibrillator to the victim’s chest. Once applied , the AED will start to monitor the sufferer’s heart rhythm.  If a “shockable” rhythm is detected , the unit will charge itself and instruct the trained help to stand clear of the SCA victim and to push the shock button.

An Automated External Defibrillatoris hard wired to teach rescuers specifically what to do , using   voice and visual prompts . trained help attach   adhesive electrode pads on the victim’s chest. Through these electrodes, the AED is designed to automatically analyze the electrical activity of the heart to determine if a “shockable” rhythm exists.

Whether you undergo an Sudden Cardiac Arrest at work   or in the Hospital Emergency Room , defibrillation is THE treatment .

AED laws and regulations vary from state to state.  Look to see what your state laws require.

Keep in mind that, not all Automated External Defibrillators are made the same .  With that in mind we endorse the ZOLL AED Plus, because the AED Plus it the most user friendly AED out there.

There are many Automated External Defibrillator distributors.  For competitive prices and live support visit our site at http://www.ZollUS.com

The benefits of stereo headphones.

February 25, 2009

Although modern headphones have been particularly widely sold and used for listening to stereo recordings since the release of the Walkman, there is subjective debate regarding the nature of their reproduction of stereo sound. Stereo recordings represent the position of horizontal depth cues (stereo separation) via volume differences of the sound in question between the two channels.

When the sounds from two speakers mix, they create the phase difference the brain uses to locate direction. Through most headphones, because the right and left channels do not combine in this manner, the illusion of the phantom centre can be perceived as lost.

Hard panned sounds will also only be heard only in one ear rather than from one side. This latter point is of particular import for earlier stereo recordings which were less sophisticated, sometimes playing vocals through one channel and music through the other.

Binaural recordings use a different microphone technique to encode direction directly as phase, with very little amplitude difference (except above 2 kHz) often using a dummy head, and can produce a surprisingly life-like spatial impression through headphones. Commercial recordings almost always use stereo recording, because historically loudspeaker listening has been more popular than headphone listening.

It is possible to change the spatial effects of stereo sound on headphones to better approximate the presentation of speaker reproduction by using frequency-dependent cross-feed between the channels, or–better still–a Blumlein shuffler (a custom EQ employed to augment the low-frequency content of the difference information in a stereo signal). While cross-feed can reduce the unpleasantness that some listeners find with hard panned stereo in headphones, the use of a dummy head during recording, with artificial pinnae, can allow on playback through headphones, the experience of hearing the performance as though situated in the positron of the dummy head.

Optimal sound is achieved when the dummy head matches the listener’s head, since pinnae vary greatly in size and shape.

Headsets can have an ergonomic benefits over traditional telephone handsets[citation needed]. They allow call center agents to maintain better posture instead of tilting their head sideways to cradle a handset[citation needed].

Isn’t MLM One of Those Pyramid Schemes?

February 24, 2009

This is a question that we often get asked.  And the answer of course is “Definitely Not!”  Though MLM and pyramid schemes may seem to share some similarities, there’s a BIG difference which makes MLM legal and pyramiding ILLEGAL.

In pyramid schemes, income is generated solely on the process of recruiting others into the pyramid. Sometimes a product or service of questionable value is involved, but you are most often buying into the right to recruit others and collect money.

This is illegal!  Also, in pyramid schemes, those who get in first and are at the top win, while everyone else loses.

In a legitimate MLM company, representatives are paid only on the movement of products or selling of services, not merely recruiting.

Sometimes, there’s also compensation based on the training and managing of your marketing team.

Also, in an MLM company, no matter where you are positioned or when you joined, you can advance to the very highest income levels, and pass those who sponsor you.

Multi Level Marketing is nothing more that a business model that uses independent distributors with a multi level commission payout plan to move products from production to the consumer.

But you ask, “Isn’t the shape of an MLM organization similar to a pyramid?”  And the answer to that question is yes, but that is true of all hierarchical organizations.  For example, the shape of all normal businesses is in the shape of a pyramid.  There is something like a President or CEO, several Vice Presidents, more Division Directors, Group Directors, and finally the workers that make up the bulk of the workforce.  Each level down has more people at that level.

The same holds true for governmental departments, and the military.  At the top of a governmental department, there is the Secretary, then Deputy Secretaries, Assistant Secretaries, heads of lesser groupings and then the mass of workers.

All these organizations are shaped like a pyramid, so it is not the shape of the organization that makes a difference.  It has to do with the actual selling or not selling of products of value.  If real products are being sold and consumed, and the movement of these products from production to the end consumer is the primary purpose of the business, then generally the company is a legal entity.

If the primary purpose of the company is to simply recruit more and more members and there is no real product of value being sold, then you have a illegal operation.  Chain letters are an example of this kind of activity.

What makes a MLM company different from a traditional retail company is the manner in which the sales force is paid. In traditional retail and direct sales companies, the salesperson is a company employee and earns a commission on only the products he or she sells directly.  In MLM companies the salesperson is not an employee of the company, but rather an independent distributor.

The magic of MLM is that independent distributors earn commissions not only for their own efforts, but also on the efforts of other distributors that they recruit into the business.  Earning 1% of a hundred peoples efforts is always better than earning 100% on your own efforts, as John Paul Getty noted.

The term “multi level” comes from the process where by one distributor recruits other people to become distributors and the new distributors are placed under them in what is known as a downline.  Each distributor is paid a retail commission on the products they sell themselves, and a wholesale commission on the products their downline sells (down to some designated level).

The larger downline a distributor can recruit, the larger will be his or her commissions as they will earn a wholesale override commission on all the products moved by their downline organization down to the designated level.  These commissions can add up quickly for distributors with large downlines.

Nevertheless, a controversial new ebook has recently been published that reveals why prospecting and recruiting is actually destroying many MLM businesses… why a business opportunity is literally the last thing you want to be selling… and… how to make money REGARDLESS of whether you sponsor anyone in a MLM business or not!  Click here to learn more => The Renegade Network Marketer

What’s so good about the new Apple 3G Iphone?

February 24, 2009

The original iPhone gained quite a momentum and won many critics’ hearts and now its much-improved version — the Apple 3G iPhone has been launched. On the surface, it looks like the design has been tweaked just a bit, but the real package lies within it with a host of new add-on features. As the name suggests, it provides a much faster access to 3G wireless networks. This includes the Microsoft Exchange server e-mail support along with many other types of applications that have been provided by the iPhone App Store.

The user has the freedom of selecting tunes from the iTunes Store through the App Store menu. It is a smooth ride to browse through names and categories along with the Top 25 listed applications here. The other remarkable addition is the MobileMe service. This service has been orchestrated along with the Mac Mail, iCal and Address Book applications. Using the Wi-Fi in sync with the e-mail is a pleasure, as the new messages are registered within an blink. Syncing with the 3G is as quick, so you are basically spoilt for choice and this might see the 3G Apple Iphone promote itself as a worthy business mobile device.

On the physical aspect, the new silver rim appears a bit thinner, but there is a slightly pronounced silver mesh that has been encased behind the speakers. The original aluminium silver casing has now been done away with and you get a thickish plastic encasing instead. One major improvement is the 3G iPhone’s new headset jack where you can use any standard headset and this does away with the problems of a dug-in jack of the original. Two new icons, on the front, catch your attention — the Contacts and the App Store and the voice quality much sharper. The iPhone 3G delivers on adding some ‘first-of-its kind’ features and is a massive upgrade, but doesn’t compromise on the appeal that the original version had.

The Kitchen, Bathroom and Windows: Effective Advice For Remodeling Your Homes Most Important Rooms and Areas

February 23, 2009

Remodeling your house is a viable alternativeto purchasing a new home and then packing up your stuff. However, remodeling is not always cheaper; simple planning mistakes or poor contractor selection can lead to disastrous emotional and financial results. Organization and thorough research are your two biggest weapons against the common pitfalls of home remodeling. Use them wisely.

Your garage, your bathroom, your kitchen are three great places to consider for your home remodeling project.  However, before you begin work, you must ask yourself many questions. The most important of these questions requires an honest answer: how much can you really afford to spend? When performing a remodel, you need to be financially realistic. Unless you take great care when accepting bids from contractors, your home remodel will most likely run 20% to 30% more than expected. While you have many possibilities for remodeling, this article will only focus on three different rooms: the kitchen, the garage, and the bathroom.

While there are limitless possibilities for remodeling your home, this particular article is going to discuss three different rooms: your bathroom, kitchen and your garage. For most everyone, the bathroom is a private sanctuary. Where else can you shut out the world and enjoy a hot shower or a soothing bubble bath? When you are planning your bathroom remodel, you need to consider where you naturally spend most of your time: looking in the mirror or soaking up the suds. How you answer that question reveals where you should indulge in your bathroom design. Do you know there are options such as heated flooring and even towel warming racks? And it is always recommended that you spend a little extra when it comes to bathroom fixtures. By investing more cash on the extra bells and whistles can easily transform your bathroom into a mini at-home spa.

It has been said that well over 50% of home owners do not park their vehicle in their garage. Instead of a place to park a vehicle, their garage is nothing but a big storage unit. Have you become one of those people? If so, you might want to remodel your garage. A remodeled garage can actually increase your storage space, expand the “usable” square footage of your home, or even allow you to park your car inside it.

In addition to gaining extra storage space, a garage can be transformed into a home gym, a laundry room, an elaborate work room, or even into extra living space such as a spare bedroom or play room for the kids. If you want to transform your garage into extra living space, you need to factor in the additional construction costs for heating, electrical, and cooling. And if you would like to add a bathroom or some other form of water supply, you will also need to add in plumbing costs which can be expensive.

A kitchen remodel is the most complicated (and usually the most costly) home remodel project you can start. It is a big undertaking; don’t take it lightly. It is highly recommended that you hire a qualified contractor than to try to perform your own kitchen remodel. If you request bids from several contractors – which would be a good idea, your scope of work needs to be extremely specific regarding the materials that are to be used for your new kitchen (detailed proposals allow for a more accurate comparison). Not too mention, if you aren’t specific in regards to materials, there is a strong chance you will get materials either inferior or too expensive than what you originally had in mind.

Designing the layout of your kitchen is the most important part of your kitchen’s remodel. Every aspect of the design should meet with your enthusiastic approval before you begin construction You also need to consider the down time; how long can you handle not having a kitchen? The more severe your remodel, the longer you can expect to be without a working kitchen.

Buy kitchen window treatments to finish the look of your new kitchen remodel. A new set of  kitchen window treatments can help finish any kitchen, large or small. Of course if you are handy with the sewing machine try making kitchen curtains.

Outside of hiring an experienced, licensed contractor for your project, it is probably a good idea to hire an independent consultant that can oversee your chosen contractor’s work progress and overall quality of work. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between black steel piping and ductile iron piping, but an independent consultant that specializes in home remodels can. He or she will notice if your contractor or subcontractors attempt to take shortcuts.

Your family’s happiness and livelihood are closely tied to your home. Take care in your overall preparation for and planning for your project and you will have a successful remodeling experience.

No Overnight Recognition for Artist Jack Vettriano

February 23, 2009

Artist Jack Vettriano (birth name Jack Hoggan) was born in Fife, Scotland in 1951. But unlike many gifted artists who start painting while very young, Vettriano only began teaching himself to paint after a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolor paints for his 21st birthday.

In 1989, at the age of 38, he felt ready to show his paintings in public and submitted two works to the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition. Both were accepted and sold immediately, after which the artist was approached by several galleries wanting to sell his work..

In 2004 The Singing Butler, Vettriano’s best known painting, was sold at Sotheby’s for close to £750,000. In the same year he was awarded an OBE for Services to the Visual Arts.

Although his work is often dismissed by art critics as devoid of imagination, Vettriano is one of the most commercially successful living artists. While his original works regularly fetch six figure prices, it is believed he makes more from the sale of reproductions.

And that’s lucky for non-art critics who appreciate his work as prints by Jack Vettriano are now readily available and affordable for those who can’t fork out large sums of cash for originals.

Thanks to modern technology and advances in digital printing, it’s now feasible to produce art reproductions at budget prices. The quality of fine art prints has simultaneously improved. Advanced inkjet printers using a broad array of inks can produce vivid, pure colors, exceptional detail and subtle tones previously only achievable with the most expensive of equipment.

This means the average person now has access to Vettriano posters and fine art prints reproduced from his original artwork. Reproductions are made on archival quality materials and often include stretched canvas prints, providing an even more authentic look.

When looking for quality reproductions, it’s worth checking if the work is available as a Giclée print. Giclée prints (pronounced “zhee-clay”) are fine art reproductions using special inkjet machines that print on a variety of paper surfaces or substrates, including textures such as watercolor paper, canvas, or artist textured vinyl.

When choosing a fine art print, one has various framing alternatives available that allow one to stamp the artwork with personal preferences, ensuring a degree of originality.

Selecting a frame that complements not only the print but also the room’s interior will add hugely to one’s enjoyment of the artwork. Unless you’re very daring, it’s safest to keep it simple – contemporary frames with contemporary art, and so forth.

Using established interior design concepts allied with tasteful selection of the artist’s framed prints, it’s now quite easy to decorate your home or corporate walls to look like a personalized art gallery – without breaking your budget.

How to Get Rid of Mould

February 22, 2009

Mold is a problem for homeowners not just after a flood or high water puts water into your house but almost anytime. A small leak in your plumbing could feed mold growth silently for years without detection. You might have no idea it was there before a section of your floor caved in!

How to get rid of mold will be your first concern, once you find any growing where you don’t want it to.

One way to get rid of mold is to call up a contractor that specializes in that area. Certainly a Professional Mold Removal company would know how to remove mold, right?

What you will quickly discover is that mold removal can be very expensive! Contractors may charge a thousand dollars or more just to do an inspection! Many will not even consider a contract for less than $10,000. Wow! That’s a lot of money! What other ways are there to get rid of mold?

A quick check around will reveal a scarcity of real information. There are some products you could buy, but which is best? Which will work in your case? There are some people with some ideas of what to do, but no experience to point to. There will also be many sad tales of people fighting a war with mold for years but it kept coming back! Others gave up in disgust, demolished the whole structure and started over!

There IS another way. You can now get the same training, information and operating manual that the professionals use to teach their managers and key employees how to clean mold. Want to know more? Just click on a link in this posting…

free business cards

February 22, 2009

Often your first contact is your business partners business card – understandable that you want to leaver a good impression!

Perhaps the quality of business cards has lost a little bit of importance. If you remember the 80ies and the business card scene from “American Psycho” you know what I mean ;-)

Nevertheless it is important if you seriously want to do business. Although in times of email and business websites it might be easy to get contact details from anyone you need, you must not forget that giving your card to someone is a little bit of advertising at the same time. So it is imperative to create a card that is catching the eye and looks serious at the same time.

In Germany, where I live you can often see ads for sites where you can create your own business cards for free (kostenlose Visitenkarten gestalten). Are those offers really free? Well, most of the times they are – more or less. In most cases you pay for shipping and handling.

Many of these “almost free” offers only cover a very basic layout and design. The very moment you decide to take one of these “Gratis Visitenkarten”-offers, and want a little more like better printing paper or some other specials you pay for it. On the other hand if you just want to start a test baloon and see what the card you have in mind looks like when it is printed, this offer is for you!

If you are a creative mind and like working with paper, you might as well print and cut your cards yourself, all you need is a good printer and a good cutter. So if you like to do work with paper anyway, perhaps even like to do paper handicrafts (basteln mit Papier, as that is called in german), you just have to get a good graphics program and can start printing yourself!

Rudiments Of Growing A Home Garden

February 21, 2009

When growing a vegetable garden the most important aspect is the seed growth. Once seeds have germinated, other problems may occur. Damping off is where the seedlings rapidly wilt and fall over. There are four genera’s of fungi that have been shown to cause this. They are: Pythium, Fusarium, Phytophthora, and Rhizoctonia. If seedlings are infected apply specific fungicide or replant seeds in a sterilized potting medium. The best way to prevent this is to start with sterile potting medium and sterile containers. These are just a few of the home gardening tips that are popular.

Wilting may be caused by lack of water, lack of nitrogen or too much water. Add water to the potting mix if water is lacking. If there is too much water, allow the pots to dry out before re-watering. If water content is fine, add a dilute solution of a nitrogen based fertilizer to the pot. Yellow leaves are a sign of either too much water or too little nutrients. If too much water allow the pot to dry out before re-watering. If you do this it will become similar to a dazzling diamond in the rough as it will never grow.

If moisture content is fine, add a dilute solution of plant food containing a wide range of nutrients. Long spindly growth is a sign of not enough light. Move the seedling to brighter location or supplement light with a growth lamp. Mottled or speckled leaves are a sign of severe micronutrient deficiency. It may be cause by a lack of micronutrients in the potting mix or high pH water. Add a dilute concentration of a plant food containing a wide range of essential plant nutrients. If the water has high pH, using rainwater will help.

Many micronutrients become unavailable at pHs above 7.0. Seeds going into shock after transplanting outdoors are caused lack of hardening off. To prevent move un-transplanted seedlings gradually outdoors on cool but not cold days. Bring seedlings back indoors or into a sheltered cool environment if temperatures drop significantly. If seedlings are already planted, cover them with some type of light protection until temperatures warm up again. It is amazing though that processed hemp clothing bears no adverse reactions to sunlight over extended periods.
