Rudiments Of Growing A Home Garden

February 21, 2009

When growing a vegetable garden the most important aspect is the seed growth. Once seeds have germinated, other problems may occur. Damping off is where the seedlings rapidly wilt and fall over. There are four genera’s of fungi that have been shown to cause this. They are: Pythium, Fusarium, Phytophthora, and Rhizoctonia. If seedlings are infected apply specific fungicide or replant seeds in a sterilized potting medium. The best way to prevent this is to start with sterile potting medium and sterile containers. These are just a few of the home gardening tips that are popular.

Wilting may be caused by lack of water, lack of nitrogen or too much water. Add water to the potting mix if water is lacking. If there is too much water, allow the pots to dry out before re-watering. If water content is fine, add a dilute solution of a nitrogen based fertilizer to the pot. Yellow leaves are a sign of either too much water or too little nutrients. If too much water allow the pot to dry out before re-watering. If you do this it will become similar to a dazzling diamond in the rough as it will never grow.

If moisture content is fine, add a dilute solution of plant food containing a wide range of nutrients. Long spindly growth is a sign of not enough light. Move the seedling to brighter location or supplement light with a growth lamp. Mottled or speckled leaves are a sign of severe micronutrient deficiency. It may be cause by a lack of micronutrients in the potting mix or high pH water. Add a dilute concentration of a plant food containing a wide range of essential plant nutrients. If the water has high pH, using rainwater will help.

Many micronutrients become unavailable at pHs above 7.0. Seeds going into shock after transplanting outdoors are caused lack of hardening off. To prevent move un-transplanted seedlings gradually outdoors on cool but not cold days. Bring seedlings back indoors or into a sheltered cool environment if temperatures drop significantly. If seedlings are already planted, cover them with some type of light protection until temperatures warm up again. It is amazing though that processed hemp clothing bears no adverse reactions to sunlight over extended periods.

A Guide To Glue Guns and Adhesives

February 21, 2009

Glue guns are available in low temperature and high temperature hot-melt versions. Low temperature glue guns heat up to about 120º C and are more suitable where a high temperature is undesirable. High-temperature guns heat up to around 195°C and produce a stronger bond. Also available are dual glue guns which feature a switch so that both low and high temperatures can be used for different applications.

For industrial applications, there are a broad range of heavy duty glue guns available which are designed to optimise production efficiency. These range from high output pneumatic glue guns to multi temperature units.

Glue sticks are available in various sizes for different types and sizes of glue guns. The most common size has a diameter of 11mm. Glue sticks are also available in various lengths, from about 10cm upwards. However, most glue guns will accommodate glue sticks of any length. Hot melt and low temperature glue sticks are available for the different types of glue gun. Hot melt adhesives do not contain any solvents or water. They set when they drop in temperature and this means that they can set quickly.

For industrial purposes, different types of glue sticks are available for specialist uses. The most common diameters are 12 and 43mm. For domestic use, there are only a few types of glue sticks that are available. Glue sticks have different open times, which is the time taken to form a bond. This varies from a couple of seconds to several minutes.

Glue guns should be turned on a few minutes before being used so that the heating element and glue stick can warm up. As the glue stick gets hot it melts and then it can be used to glue various materials together. Care should be taken when using hot glue guns as hot glue can be dangerous. Always be sure to keep your fingers away from the glue as it comes out of the nozzle.

How To Eliminate Credit Card Debt Without Bankruptcy

February 21, 2009

You decide to take a big leap and leave your current job and start the business you’ve always dreamed of starting.  You saved up money for years and you have several credit cards you can use just in case.  Well the worst scenario happens and the business does not take off.  Sales are disappointing.  You burn through your savings in a few short months just to meet payroll and then those “just in case” credit cards become a lifeline to your business.  Soon, it’s becoming apparent that the business is not going to work in this current economy no matter how hard you work.  People are not spending money and it’s time to throw in the towel.  But you are stuck with tens of thousands of credit card debt and you may soon find yourself struggling to make your credit card payments.

You need debt relief but you don’t know how to get it.  You’ve thought about bankruptcy because you heard it was a great way to eliminate debt but then it has many drawbacks that you need to consider before you do.  Bankruptcy does not eliminate debt anymore.  With Chapter 13, you have to payback most of what you owe, usually over a 5 year period so this will not provide you with the debt relief you are looking for.  So how to eliminate debt? How about debt settlement.  Debt settlement will allow you to eliminate your credit card debt and give you extra money in your pocket each month.

How to eliminate debt with debt settlement

What you do is make a debt settlement offer with your credit card company that will allow them to collect some money due on your account instead of getting nothing if you file bankruptcy.  If you owe say, $30,000 in debt, you could offer $12-$15k, a reduction of 50% off your debt, and most credit card companies would accept that.  Debt settlements of 40-60% are not uncommon.

You have to show the credit card companies how it is in their best interests to settle your debts now instead of risking losing it all if you have to file bankruptcy and stop making your payments.  You want to pay them what you owe but you can only afford a smaller settlement and they should take it to help you out and collect some money on your account.  Give it a try if you need debt relief and you are considering bankruptcy.

The Choices of Natural Stone

February 21, 2009

Stones of the past seem to be the future!Stone is a product of nature and its appearance is a result of millions of years of geologic change and mineral composition. Extreme color variations, as well as variations in veining, shade, finish, texture, strength, hardness and density are all characteristics of natural stone. Some stones may contain a resin filler to fill in the natural fissures or pits in the stone’s surface. Special care is required for maintaining natural stone. Check with a local sales representative regarding the special needs for your stone selection. With proper care, its beauty will last a lifetime.

Granite:(Igneous Rock) Granite began as liquid magma in the earths core and is comprised mainly of quartz, feldspar, mica and other minerals. It’s high compressive strength, hardness and durability make it an ideal choice for flooring and counter tops as well as exterior applications.

Marble & Onyx: (Metamorphic Rock) Marble is formed from Limestone that has been heated by the earth’s core and changed into a crystalline structure. It is valued for its rich, beautiful colors and unique veining.

Limestone:(Sedimentary Rock) Limestone is comprised mainly of calcium carbonate and is the result of millions of years of sea shells and bones of sea creatures settling on the ocean floor. You can sometimes notice the fossils when examined closely.

Travertine: (Sedimentary Rock) Travertine began as Limestone and is a result of hot springs in the earth’s core. After the water evaporated, the layers of dissolved limestone and minerals gave the stone its banded appearance. The characteristic holes in the stone are a result from gas bubbles which evaporate and form crystals in the cavities. These cavities are sometimes left as is for a more rustic & antique look or filled with a tinted epoxy and honed for a more solid surface effect.

Slate:(Metamorphic) Slate is formed from compressed layers of the sedimentary rock shale that can be split to reveal beautiful colors and textured surfaces. Slate can be split and left with its natural cleft surface or gauged for a more consistent thickness.

Quartzite: (Metamorphic) Similar to slate, quartzite contains 95% quartz and a higher concentration of mica which gives it a sparkling texture. The current trend in stone is definitely travertine – as old looking as possible.

There are several things that can be done to stone to create new finishes. Here is a list of popular finishes:

Antiqued:This can mean different things to different manufacturers. The surface is usually brushed or honed with different pads, creating an old look. Sometimes the surface is acid washed, exposing a dimpled surface (this works especially well with travertine). The edges tend to have a chipped or tumbled look. Basically the stone looks like it’s been around a while.

Brushed:Wire brushes are used on the surface to create an undulated look.Chiseled: There are various methods used to produce this look, but basically the edges come out chipped. Generally the surface of the tile is honed or brushed.

Cobbled:Basically the same as chiseled, but the chips aren’t as deep.Honed: A matte surface is created similar to polishing, minus the last few pads. High Hone:A matte finish with a soft sheen, between honed and polished.Polished: Pads are used to create a glossy sheen on the surface of the stone.

Tumbling: Tumbled stones are put in a big cylinder and tumbled with other stones and smaller stones to create a rounded edge and softer finish. Length of time in the “Tumbler” determines how rounded the edges are. Softer stones, such as travertine, tend to have a more rounded edge than harder stones, such as marble.
